FJ 53 Armchair
FJ 53 is an armchair designed by Finn Juhl and proposed by House of Finn Juhl. Available in a wide range of fabrics and leathers for upholstery.
Introduced at the Copenhagen Carpenters’ Guild Exhibition in 1953, Finn Juhl designed the FJ 53 series for master carpenter Niels Vodder. The structure of FJ 53 is a formal triumph: starting from the floor, the rear legs change direction with a single movement, transforming themselves into organic armrests, which, tapering upwards, seem almost as if they are asking to be touched. Today House of Finn Juhl relaunches both the armchair and the 2-seater sofa, both available in American walnut or European oak, with wooden structures made in Japan; the upholstery is available in fabric or leather and handmade in Ringkøbing in Denmark. Both elements are launched with an optional cushion, until now only present in a wonderful watercolor by Juhl from 1953. Both the sofa and the armchair are very spacious and naturally invite you to sit down; with a light expression and a beauty capable of expressing itself from any angle, FJ 53 is a series that lends itself perfectly to free-standing in private living rooms or lounge areas of hotels and companies.
