Murrine Opache is the collection of centerpieces signed by Carlo Scarpa in 1940 for the Venini brand. Created from the skillful blending of the murrina technique with the battuto technique, in coral and black colors, in editions numbered by year.Murrine Opache is a series with a decades-long historical memory signed by the great master Carlo Scarpa. The union of the murrina and battuto glass working techniques create a unique, symmetrical tessellated texture in shades of coral and black, which acquires even more charm thanks to the shading typical of Venini's grinding.The battuto technique consists of cold working that puts more skill and delicacy of the master glassmaker to the test. Battuto glass is characterized by a surface that is "sculpted" by hand, thanks to a grinding wheel, in such a way as to make countless small, seemingly irregular marks.Murrina is one of the oldest decorative techniques, already known to the Romans and recovered in Murano at the beginning of the eighth decade of the 19th century. It consists of joining glass rods of various colors in a predetermined pattern. The whole is then heated to form a single reed, which is precisely cut into small discs.
